The webmaster well remembers whilst a trainee anaesthetist being quizzed by a surgeon at QAMH Millbank -Lt Col Lister – whether the patient was still alright. A quick glance at the brand new pulse monitor showed that whilst the nephrectomy was going well the patient no longer had a pulse. He seemed pink, his blood was red but his pulse was zero and my consultant supervisor – Lt Col Bob Hutton – was in the office outside. The battery in the wretched device was flat. I am wary of electronic devices.
