The tower of Nizwa Fort. Nizwa is situated at the southern base of the Jebel, and was a rebel stronghold in the Jebel Akhdar War in 1957/58. The damage inflicted by the RAF is seen from the repairs to the
tower. Nizwa is on the north edge of the desert, and local rock salt was a major item of trade.
