A simple plastic bag, made in Thetford, with a bit of citrate in it to prevent the blood from clotting. Essential in taking blood from donors, storing it and then using it for transfusions. The  blood bank walked around RAF Salalah in desert boots and flip-flops until called upon to to put some in a Fenwall pack. Blood was then usually stored in a rusty old domestic refrigerator but for no more than a few hours before being used.

Blood from  British servicemen was used both on locals who were in SAF  and were wounded and on locals having cold procedures in the town hospital. The local Omanis declined when asked to give blood even for their relatives.  A Lab Tech, at a recent curry lunch,  from another FST, said that this was so when he was in Oman.
