This aircraft was the equivalent of the Canberra. It had the same Klimov engines as the Mig 17. The Klimov VK-1 was the first Soviet jet engine to see significant production. It was derived from the British Rolls-Royce_Nene . Rolls-Royce were allowed to sell a number of them to the Soviets, widely regarded as a bad move, but pushed through by Sir Stafford Cripps. The Soviets promptly reverse-engineered them and produced the Klimov in huge numbers.

Two of the IL-28 were trainers and Russian crews had been retained to fly them and to train the Yemenised
