The casevac aircraft was heading RAF Muharraq on Bahrein Island which had immeasurably greater facilities than the FST in Salalah. However the turbulent weather made it divert to RAF Sharjah which was to be closed in December 1971 and had fewer medical facilities than even Salalah. Assuming a cruising speed of 500km/hour the time difference was small. However the sophisticated Al Maktoum Hosital in Dubai was only ten miles from Sharjah and S/Sgt Moores would have excellent facilities there.
