Dhofar West Region. This photograph shows the effect of the Monsoon (Khareef) on the coast. May – October the area is regularly shrouded in mist with drizzle and rain. Everything gets soaked and vegetation is revitalised. After the Monsoon the grass very quickly burns out and the rocky sandy ‘moonscape’ which is seen mid right leads to a true desert with almost no vegetation. The wadis near the coast retain hardy plant life including an abundance of frankincsense. The photograph was taken from a helicopter and is unfortunately affected by its exhaust heat.
